It is indicated for species that in the wild consume a significant amount of fruits and seeds from oleaginous plants (genera Psitta-cus, Ara, Poicephalus...).

Daily intake ranges from 5 % to 8% of the animals body weight. Medium-sized species (like the African Grey parrot), consume between 20 and 40 g.

Ambient temperature greatly influences intake.
